National General Health Screening Program in Korea: history, current status, and future direction

Health screening is an important component of health promotion programs, and countries have promoted general targeting the prevention early management common chronic diseases. In Korea, a General Screening Program (GHSP) began with workers in 1950s continuously expanded its target population, currently includes adult population. The main diseases are cerebroand cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obesity, related behaviors. Other conditions include other (e.g., anemia, liver disease, visual/auditory impairment), mental depression), geriatric disease function (osteoporosis, dementia, risk fall, etc.). National Information Database, GHSP information, now extensively used clinical public research. participation rate 70% to 80%, but varies according age, disability, socioeconomic status. There need for more systematic evaluation items, reducing disparity gaps participation, linking actual promotion.
